Treating acute Hepatitis C

Hepatitis C is a blood-borne disease that millions of people across the world have contracted. The disease can cause much damage to the body, as it is known to attack the liver, causing cirrhosis and requiring the patient to often undergo a liver transplant in order to return to everyday life. There are two phases of the disease; they are known as the acute phase and the chronic phase. When the disease has been caught within the first 6 months of contracting it, it is within the acute stage, and is therefore much easier to treat. After 6 months, however, the disease can take hold of the body, resulting in a case of chronic Hepatitis C which can be much more troublesome. In this article, we’ll be discussing the treatment options that are available for those who are in the early, acute stage of the disease, as it is the phase that is most easily treated.

When it comes to treating acute Hepatitis C, there are standards set in place that doctors most often employ in order to help patients to overcome the problem as quickly and easily as possible. These standards rely heavily on the usage of two different drugs in order to help the patient to make a full recovery. The first agent necessary in combating acute Hepatitis C is known as interferon alpha. Normally secreted within the body by both B-cells and T-cells, interferon alpha is a type of antiviral agent that can help to ward off the Hepatitis C virus. The regular usage of interferon alpha in those with Hepatitis C often results in the patient having better blood test results. Also, those who undergo interferon alpha therapy regularly to treat their Hepatitis C condition usually are known to have better results when it comes to liver biopsies that can show how far the disease has progressed. While Hepatitis C patients who used interferon alpha in their treatment regimen used to have to inject themselves three times per week in order to get the desired results, a new type of the interferon has been created which can help to aid this process. Known as pegylated interferon alpha, this newly approved type of medication allows a Hepatitis C patient to only undergo one injection per week while still achieving the same results.

The other drug that is used most often when treating Hepatitis C is an antiviral agent that is known as Ribavirin. This drug is sold under several different trade names, including Copegus, Rebetol, and Ribasphere. Unlike interferon alpha, which needs to be injected to work properly, Ribavirin is often brought into the body via the means of an orally consumed capsule. It’s a synthetically formed agent which was created in the 1970s, originally intended to help fight influenza. The compound is of much efficiency when it comes to fighting Hepatitis C, but you should be cautioned that it may worsen any already-present cases of cardiac disease.

These two treatments are paramount to overcoming a problem with Hepatitis C. While not everyone can successfully eliminate the disease from their bodies, well over fifty percent of all cases of Hepatitis C can be effectively cured through these types of treatments when taken in tandem. Before beginning any medication regimen, it’s important to speak to your doctor, letting them know about any preexisting health conditions that may be worsened by the medication.

Decreasing your risk of Hepatitis C

Hepatitis C is a dangerous disease that can cause your liver to become so severely damaged that a transplant is necessary in order for you to stay alive. It’s a disease that is not as commonly discussed as Hepatitis A and Hepatitis B, but it is widespread nonetheless, with thousands upon thousands of people throughout the world being afflicted. Hepatitis C causes the liver to become inflamed, which causes it to be unable to break down waste products as efficiently as it should, causing the liver to become more and more damaged, and sometimes giving the afflicted individual an orange-yellow tint to their skin due to the buildup of waste. If unchecked, the disease can cause the patient to experience cirrhosis of the liver or cancer of the liver. In this article, we’ll be discussing some of the basics of Hepatitis C, and more importantly, we’ll be discussing what you can do in order to decrease your risk of being afflicted with this terrible disease.

While there are vaccines available that can help your body to become immune to Hepatitis A or Hepatitis B viruses, there is not yet a vaccine available to make you immune to Hepatitis C. The disease is blood-borne, and is usually passed from person-to-person via a direct contact between the bloods of two individuals. The virus can pass from person to person simply by the act of having sex, so it’s important to ensure that you are always practicing safe sex with the use of a condom to prevent the transmission of Hepatitis C as well as numerous other infections. Since Hepatitis C is a disease that can exhibit no symptoms whatsoever, you can never be too sure who has the disease. Many people don’t even realize that they have it until irreversible damage has been done to their liver. Another precaution that you should take in order to decrease your risk for getting the disease includes not sharing personal grooming items such as toothbrushes and razors. Sharing needles can also result in the transmission of Hepatitis C; never share needles, and be sure to ensure that you are getting a fresh, sterilized needle if you are getting a tattoo. It is also transmissible from mother to child, so you need to take special care to ensure that you do not catch the disease for your health as well as the health of your future children.

If you’ve participated in any of the risky behaviors listed above, it might be in your best interests to speak to a doctor to ensure that you don’t have the disease. As well as the above factors, if you’ve received a blood transfusion that occurred before the year 1992, you may want to check if you have Hepatitis C. If you undergo treatment for the disease, you can often bring it into remission, and over fifty percent of all cases of Hepatitis C that are treated with proper medications have caused the disease to actually disappear from the body entirely.

The Connection Between Diabetes & Obesity

We hear so often that diabetes can be the end result of obesity, but what exactly is behind this process? What mechanism is at play which creates diabetes in people that are extremely overweight?

The answers to these questions can be a bit complicated because of each individual's background, but essentially what is happening is that when a person becomes more and more overweight, they become resistant to their own insulin. When an obese person starts to lose weight and get healthy again, their bodies will start to slowly regain its insulin sensitivity.
Scientists and researchers have believed for a long time now that there must be a substance which is produced by fat that may be helpful in explaining the connection between obesity and diabetes. In fact, they have recently discovered a certain compound that exists in the fat tissues of mice which might be the answer they are looking for.

A compound known as resistin

The compound known as resistin was first noted in the journal entitled "Nature" (January issue of 2001) when it was isolated in small rodents. Resistin is a hormone which is created by fat cells and causes the body to become resistant to its own insulin. Scientists then discovered that resistin could be suppressed by a drug known as "rosiglitazone" which is designed to improve insulin resistance.

Another good sign of progress in the attempt to control insulin in obese people is the fact that when resistin was injected into mice, it caused the mice to become resistant to their insulin. However, anti-bodies that were opposed to resistin were given to these same mice which then showed a decrease in the resistance to insulin.

This is not an official finding as of yet

Although the above research looks very promising, the connection is not yet 100% founded on concrete evidence with humans because resistin has not yet been detected in human fat cells. However, Researchers are confident that they will find a similar compound to that of resistin within the human body stemming from fat cells, but it is not yet verified in any recent publications.

Oral Drugs Used To Treat Diabetes: Metformin

Approved by the Federal Drug Administration in 1995, Metformin has been used successfully to treat men and women suffering from diabetes. This glucose-lowering medication can be found under the brand name "Glucophage". However, if you were to seek this medicine outside of the United States, you will find it under the following various brand names: Fornidd, Diaformin, Benoformin, Metomin, Dextin, Glucoform, Metforal, and Orabet.

Interestingly enough, Metformin had a sister drug which caused some patients to have fatal complications and was banned from the United States over 20 years ago. This sister drug was called phenformin.

Fortunately however, Metformin has been used for years now without much trouble at all and to date is not officially associated with any of the fatal complications caused by phenformin. You can find these reports in the Internal Medicine Archives of 2003, filed in the month of November.

For more information on Metformin and its characteristics, please read below:

1. This drug works well for people that have either type 1 diabetes or type 2 diabetes. The reason for this is because it does not rely on stimulating insulin in order to work.

2. Metformin causes a reduction of blood glucose by limiting how much glucose is produced in the liver.

3. It does not cause hypoglycemia so long as the drug is taken by itself.

4. Metformin comes tablets with strengths of 500, 850, and 1000 mg.

5. Patients should not take more than 2500 mg daily which should be broken up to be ingested with each meal.

6. You must take this drug with food or else it may cause gastrointestinal irritation. However, this is a side effect that will diminish in time.

7. Doctors do not recommend that this drug be taken if you are suffering from liver disease, kidney disease, or heart disease.

8. Many patients experience weight loss when Metformin is taken. This is usually a matter of a lack of appetite, caused by gastrointestinal irritation.

9. This drug is not recommended for pregnant women, mothers who are nursing, and people who drink alcohol on a regular basis.

Oral Drugs Used To Treat Diabetes: Rosiglitazone

Rosiglitazone (a thiazolidinedione) is a successful drug which is used to treat diabetes and is marketed by its brand name "Avandia". This drug is very helpful in controlling blood glucose and because of its convenience with only one daily dosage needed, it is a welcome treatment for many diabetics. Below are the basic characteristics of rosiglitazone:

1. You can take rosiglitazone, which is in tablet form, only once daily and with or without food based on your preference.

2. Rosiglitazone is available in strengths of 2 mg tablets, 4 milligram tablets, and 8 mg tablets.

3. This drug greatly improves insulin resistance which means that it has its best effect on blood glucose after meals are eaten.

4. Rosiglitazone may take up to 12 weeks or longer in order to provide its maximum benefits. The recommended dose for starters it is 4 milligrams. 8 milligrams is the maximum dose recommended by doctors. Patients have their dosages increased typically every three to four weeks, and only if deemed necessary by their doctor.

5. If you are a diabetic with poor glucose control that is taking a sulfonylurea drug or metformin, then combining them with rosiglitazone works well together. However, you may need to reduce the amount of sulfonylurea dosages taken to avoid hypoglycemia.

6. There is no need to fear hypoglycemia if you are taking rosiglitazone by itself. Hypoglycemia is only caused by this drug when combined with sulfonylurea or insulin.

7. Another benefit of this drug is that it is "insulin-sparing'. This means that when taking rosiglitazone, your body does not have to make as much insulin on its own in order to control blood glucose.

8. When it comes to your body excreting rosiglitazone out of its system, it is done mostly through the bowels. This is a huge benefit because many drugs have to filter through the kidneys which may cause kidney damage.

Oral Drugs Used To Treat Diabetes: Sulfonylureas

Did you know that insulin shots are not the only drugs capable of treating diabetes? This has been a common belief for many years and one that has caused many people with diabetes not to consider consulting with their doctor about alternative methods of treatment.

For some time now there have been drugs that you can take orally instead of dealing with insulin shots on a daily basis. One such pill that can be taken by mouth and has proven to work just as effective as insulin is a drug called Sulfonylureas.

Sulfonylureas was actually discovered on accident by scientists who used to treat soldiers with antibiotics. What they noticed was that a soldier's blood glucose levels would lower when given certain antibiotics that contained sulfur. Soon after, these scientists came up with various versions of the drug.

Regardless of what type of Sulfonylureas you may consider taking, they all have the following traits:

1. Sulfonylureas may not be effective for type 1 diabetics. This is because people with type 1 diabetes do not have the ability for their pancreas to release any insulin at all. And this drug works purely by causing the pancreas to release higher levels of insulin.

2. All versions of Sulfonylureas drugs may cause hypoglycemia.

3. Like most drugs, whether or not a person has diabetes, Sulfonylureas should not be ingested by pregnant women or by mothers who are nursing.

4. Unfortunately, all forms of the drug Sulfonylureas have a shelf life in terms of its ability to work in the human body. Many times they will not work at all for the diabetic. This is considered to be "primary failure". And for practically every diabetic who takes this drug, the effects will stop working completely after a few years. This is considered to be "secondary failure".

5. And similar to how other drugs taken for various health problems, Sulfonylureas are extremely potent when combined with one or more of the other classes of oral drugs so use caution and consult your doctor about other medications you are taking.

Peripheral Vascular Disease: A Deadly Medication Condition Caused By Diabetes

Diabetes is a very critical disease, and people who are suffering from diabetes are also vulnerable of acquiring several serious complications. These complications can prove to be life-threatening unless they are monitored with all of necessary treatments needed.

Peripheral vascular disease (PVD)

One such condition that stems from having diabetes is called peripheral vascular disease (PVD). PVD is the clogging of the arteries outside of the heart and brain, resulting in the loss of pulse in the feet. About one third of people who are suffering from diabetes for 10 years won't feel a pulse in their feet. The condition could then run up their legs and ultimately lead to amputation of the limbs. This is very serious and may lead to death.

PVD is one of the leading causes of disabilities among people with diabetes, as well as for people who are in their 50s and older. However, this disease usually targets people with diabetes much earlier in life and progresses much quicker than non-diabetics.

Signs and symptoms of peripheral vascular disease

You may be suffering from PVD if you experience sporadic pain in your buttocks, your thighs, or your calves after after walking for an extended period of time. This pain typically subsides when the walking is stopped for a short rest. People suffering from PVD, especially diabetics, reduces their life expectancy because of the damage and weakening of their arteries.

Besides being a diabetic, there are other risk factors involved in your chances of acquiring PVD. The two factors that cannot be avoided are:

1) Your age - because your chances of developing PVD increases as you get older.

2) Genetic factors - because PVD is inherited in some families and is very common with African-Americans.

A Healthier You On Your Menopausal Stage

The menopausal stage is when the levels of your progesterone and estrogen hormones fall below the normal levels. It is also the stage when your reproductive system stops producing eggs. One of the signs of menopause is the cessation of your menstruation, which means you are no longer capable of becoming pregnant. This causes a period of emotional and physical change that can stress you out if you are not prepared for it.

Predicting Menopause

There is no precise age when menopause occurs. Studies show that the menopausal stage usually occurs between forty-four and fifty-five years old. However, some women experience the menopausal stage as early as thirty-five or as late as sixty years old. If you fall into one of these groups, do not worry. It does not signify that you have abnormal hormonal changes. However, there are medical cases in which the menopausal stage starts at the young age of 18, which is considered abnormal.

Without the normal estrogen level, the risk of having a heart attack and osteoporosis becomes higher. If you have a family history of osteoporosis and heart diseases, you should notify your doctor.

Signs and Symptoms of Menopause

You will know that you are close to menopause when you notice that your periods gradually become further apart. Your menstruation period will become shorter compared to when you were younger. Some women bleed heavier within a shorter amount of time. However, there are cases in which the menstrual cycle just stops without any signs or symptoms.

Most women experience the menopausal stage for a couple of years, but others experience it as long as 7 years.

Physical Symptoms of Menopause

Your levels of estrogen and progesterone will start to decrease a few years before your menstruation stops. Here are some physical symptoms of which you need to take note:

You may experience hot flashes. Most women experience an all-over hot feeling that is enough to turn on the air-conditioning system. It is common for women to shiver with cold after these flashes pass. Some also feel a crawling sensation on their skin. Hot flushes are usually experienced at night. This can disrupt your sleeping pattern.

Because your estrogen starts to decrease, the elasticity of your skin will start to decrease, making your skin itchy and dry.

You may also notice that your period is heavier. However, if you experience this, you need to consult your doctor. Why? There are some medical conditions caused by heavy bleeding like fibroids and polyps.

Simple Exercises To Keep You Fit

To keep yourself on track with your exercise, you need to make a schedule. Your plan should include getting started with easy workouts and then progress into more challenging exercises. You can make a plan for the whole month to meet your goals and see your desired results.

Stage 1: Getting Started Put on your favorite sneakers and start a half-mile walk for about 10 minutes. You do not need to overwork your body on the first day. The first week of your exercise should be a conditioning of your body. The second day, walk a mile or three-quarters of a mile for 15 to 20 minutes. On the third day, try increasing the activity of your muscles by taking a mile and a half walk for 20 to 30 minutes. On the fourth day of exercise, the duration of you walk is more important than the distance. Try walking for 30 to 45 minutes.

Stage 2: Add Some Kick Now that you are at the second week of your routine, it is best to add some challenge. Start by walking a mile, but this time take an inclined route or walk on a small hill for 20 minutes. Follow the same route on the second day but change the pace of your walk. Take a brisk walk for 5 minutes and do it 5 times with a 1-minute interval of normal walking in between. On the third day, try cooling down. Do a mile and a half-walk on a flat terrain for 35 to 40 minutes. On the fourth day, just do a mile-walk while taking note of your time.

Phase 3: The Next Level You now need to make sure your body in an always-active mode by taking a walk at lunch and after work. You can accomplish this by parking your car a few blocks from your office to make a 15 minute-walk. Do this twice per day. Overall, you should walk for 30 minutes. On the second day, walk briskly for five minutes with a 2-minute interval of normal walk. Repeat this five times. Put some fun in your third day. Take a quick, 10-minute walk, and then walk backward while in a squatting position for one minute. You must do this on a small hill or incline. Repeat twice and finish your exercise with a brisk walk for seven minutes. On the fourth day, take a brisk walk for less than 30 minutes. Time yourself. Then take a 10-minute walk to cool down.

Phase 4: Hit the Peak On the first day of your final week, hike on small inclines or hills for 50 minutes without slowing down. Make your heart pump more on the second day. Do a 5-minute walk on an incline, plus a 10-minute walk on a flat grade without changing your speed. Then walk on a higher incline for 10 minutes. Continue for 5 more minutes but at a slower speed. Walk briskly on the third day for 60 minutes without changing your pace. On the last day, walk as far as you can for an hour.

By making an exercise plan for each month, you can help yourself stay on-track and keep your body healthy.

What are the Causes of Lupus?

What are the causes of the autoimmune disorder known as lupus? Well, nobody has the answer to that at this present time. There are no agents that can be pin-pointed as “the cause”. However there are many symptoms involved so the thought is that the disease is a result of many factors. What are the possible factors involved and what are the resulting symptoms? You will discover some of the information as you continue to read this article.

The overall causes of this immune dysfunction seem to fit into a couple broad categories. It is believed that genetics might be involved and environmental factors. Let look at the factors in a little more detail. Since there seems to be more than one member of a family that contracts lupus then there might be correlation between genes and lupus. Autoimmune disorders clearly are influenced by inherited genes.

Genetics and the lupus disorder run in families so you would think that something could be ascertained by this fact. But there is no single gene that has ever been identified as a gene for lupus. However there does appear to be more than one gene that can contribute to a person acquiring lupus. The possible genes that influence obtaining lupus seem to be acted upon by the environment. The environmental conditions that can trigger an onset of the condition called lupus can also aggravate an existing lupus disorder. What are some of these environmental factors?

The following are some of the factors believed to trigger lupus:
· Viruses
· Medication
· Stress
· Sunlight exposure
· Hormones

Ok, now we will explore each of these possible triggers briefly.

Although research has been done in an effort to link viruses or bacteria as the cause of lupus there is no clear cut connection between an infectious pathogen and lupus. While there does seem to be a connection to lupus and drugs...about 400 different medications that a person could take like an antibiotics or an antidepressant.

However, the particular lupus condition associated with this drug reaction is reversible. But the condition only imitates the condition known as SLE or systemic lupus and seems to be acquired by those who are on a long term drug regime. Some of the more common medications that seem to cause the drug induced lupus are:

· Procainamide used for treating cardiac arrhythmias
· hydralazine used for the treatment of high blood pressure
· quinidine used for treating cardiac arrhythmias

The good news is once a person with this form of lupus is removed from the medicine the symptoms usually go away. Not so fortunate are those that might be affected with lupus that is being triggered by stress.

Since stress can mean so many different things to a person based on their beliefs and environment we will just say that this environmental factor is whatever from of stress that disturbs that person’s balance. Stress can affect a healthy person or a person afflicted with lupus in the same ways or not all. However a person who already has lupus could have a flare up while a healthy person could have the onset of lupus triggered. Now, what about sunlight.

Well, the sun and its UV rays have been known to cause the rash associated with lupus. And UV can even alter DNA in its structure which can lead up to the creation of antibodies that are abnormal and are produced against a person’s own body tissues. Then there is the ever familiar hormones dilemma. Is it caused by hormones?

Well, women who can still have kids often are affected that is a fact. Furthermore, women who already have lupus can experience a flare up of lupus just before a menstrual cycle. But the relationship is not truly known. There is a suggestion though that because of the worsening of the lupus prior to menses and the fact that predominately females acquire SLE from of lupus that hormones do possibly play a very important role in and this area is being actively researched in the medical community.

Now that we have looked lupus a little deeper you might understand that although we are not sure of what the exact causes of lupus are there is a lot of information to help those that have already acquired lupus in some from or another. There is on going research trying to ascertain more knowledge about the autoimmune disorders and the immune system. Such as, there is research that can directly pin point an enzyme that is major player in the disposal of dead cells in our body. If the cells are not disposed of by this enzyme then this can contribute to SLE. There is much to be discovered in the realm of autoimmune disorders like lupus and the genetic system.

What is Lupus?

Do we know what Lupus is and where it comes from? Lupus is a disease that at one time made life very difficult for anyone who contracted it. But time and technology have meant a big change to the prognosis of someone suffering from any of the three most common types of lupus and their outlook is for a near normal life once diagnosis has been made and treatment begun. The best way to describe lupus is as an ongoing infect that will attack the lungs, kidneys, skin, heart and even the blood cells. Lupus is the outcome of the immune system attacking the body instead of fighting disease. Doctors and researchers are still unable to say why this happens or why when it does it is more likely to happen to a woman. The disease gets its name from the rash that doctor’s claim looks like the face of a wolf.

Systemic lupus erythematosus, also known as SLE, is the most serious of the three. It is also the most common. It causes swollen joints that will become quite painful, rashes, tiredness, fevers and it can go so far as to cause damage to the kidneys. Sometimes a pregnant woman, who may show no signs of the disease, can pass it on to her unborn child.

The other types are called drug-induced lupus and discoid lupus erythematosus. Drug-induced lupus is caused by the use of certain medications. The person will suffer the symptoms of SLE but once the medication is stopped the symptoms will stop as well. This type of lupus almost never affects the kidneys and since it is relatively short term in duration the symptoms do not get as bad overall. Discoid lupus erythematosus shows symptoms with rashes usually coming up on the face or scalp. They can last for a matter of days or even remain for years. Once they go away they can return. Sometimes those who have suffered an attack of discoid lupus erythematosus can later develop SLE.

There are few things that health care providers are sure about with lupus. But they know that this disease can begin at any age, though more likely between fifteen and forty five, and that women are more likely to develop it than men. As well, lupus is three times as likely to occur in African American women as in Caucasian women. Though the cases are not quite as frequent it is also more common in Hispanic, Asian and Native American women. There is also a genetic disposition to it. Unfortunately, there is currently no cure. The disease is treated with a variety drugs; specifically corticosteroids and immunosuppressants, with good results. SLE usually goes through periods of illness and then remissions.

Research continues to work hard studying this disease and working hard to find a cure. Lupus cannot be caught from a person suffering from it. It also should not be mistaken for a type of cancer or a type of AIDS. It is a disease that affects nearly one and a half million people in the United States alone.

Diagnosing lupus

Lupus is a type of disease that is particularly difficult to diagnose properly. Lupus is often referred to as ‘the great imitator’ due to the fact that it has many different symptoms that an individual may experience. Another problem is that the symptoms that one feels from a case of lupus can come and go at a moments notice, making it a particularly pesky problem for doctors to deal with. In this article, we’ll refer to some of the more commonly used methods that doctors use to diagnose the disease so that you can better identify the possible symptoms that the disease can cause, keeping yourself and the people that you love at a better chance for diagnosing the disease early if it occurs.

There are eleven basic symptoms that an individual may experience that can denote a case of lupus. In order for a successful diagnosis of the disease, doctors stress that a patient needs to be experiencing at least four of the symptoms simultaneously or nearly simultaneously during an observatory period.

A malar rash is one of the main symptoms of lupus; as a matter of fact, it’s probably where the disease got its name. Doctors in the middle ages coined the term ‘lupus’ because of the resemblance to wolves faces that malar rashes can cause. The second symptom for diagnosis is known as ‘discoid lupus’, and it refers to the presence of scaly patches on the individuals skin which may leave scars. Photosensitivity is a third symptom; individuals with lupus may develop rashes when exposed to the sun. Oral ulcers are the fourth symptom in the diagnosis, and a case of arthritis in one or more joints is the fifth. Renal disorders are the sixth symptom which causes an individual to release protein in their urine. This disorder can be diagnosed by the doctor examining a urine sample under a microscope. A neurological disorder is the seventh symptom, which can manifest itself in a case of seizures or a form of psychosis. The eighth symptom is known as serositis, and it can cause an inflammation of the area around the lungs or around the heart. The ninth is a hemotalogic disorder, which refers to a lack of white blood cell levels in an individual with no drugs causing the occurrence. For the tenth symptom, an anti-nuclear antibody test is performed. If the test comes out positive, a symptom may be added to the diagnosis. The last symptom for a diagnosis of lupus is known as an immunologic disorder, and it may be discovered through a syphilis test, surprisingly enough. If a syphilis test is performed and a false positive result is returned, the immunologic disorder symptom is fulfilled.

Now that you know a little more about the possible problems that an individual may have that can indicate a case of lupus, you are better prepared for dealing with the problem should it arise in yourself or someone that you know. While there is no cure yet, much progress is being made in the field of lupus research.

Female Infertility Treatments – An Overview

Female infertility can be treated in a number of ways that range from common and relatively easy treatments to complicated and controversial procedures. The difficulty with female infertility is that it can be hard to diagnose the exact cause of the problem and the problem can actually stem from more than one cause, which can make treatment more problematic. In addition, treatment for female infertility tends to be more costly because of the involved nature of the female body so many times expense can affect how the infertility is treated.

There are four main treatments that are considered first line and relatively common.

  1. Taking hormones – There are several causes of infertility that can stem from hormone imbalance. These include annovulatory cycles, endometriosis, short luteal phases within the menstrual cycle and an imbalance in the different reproductive hormones. Blood and urine tests can reveal what hormones are needed to restore balance within the body to restore fertility. The hormone balance within the female body is intricate and a delicate balance. It is usually not at easy as adding one hormone because that can throw off the balance of others. It is extremely difficult to get the female body back into harmony once that balance has been upset.
  2. Inducing Ovulation – There are many reasons why the female may not ovulate in any given cycle. Medications are used to stimulate the ovaries to ovulate. The ovaries can be stimulated to release one egg at a time or multiple eggs from both ovaries at the same time. Women who are using Assisted Reproductive Technologies will usually need to take medication to stimulate the ovulation of multiple eggs from both ovaries.
  3. Taking antibiotics – Infections can be a cause of infertility in women. The infections can be inside the reproductive organs, outside the body, or other places within the body to cause infertility of various forms. Antibiotics will take care of the infection and thus restore fertility but in and of themselves antibiotics will not cure infertility not caused by infection.
  4. Surgery – Minor surgical procedures can be used to restore fertility by unblocking fallopian tubes that are blocked, removing scar tissue from the reproductive system, and to treat endometriosis. Laparoscopy is a minor surgical procedure that involves the use of a small camera inserted into the naval of the woman so the surgeon can visualize the female reproductive organs to possibly find the cause of infertility. If a cause is found, the problem can be fixed using the same camera and additionally two or three incisions in the abdomen.

If the infertility is caused from blocked or damaged fallopian tubes, many times InVitro Fertilization will help combat that problem and result in conception. The male sperm and female egg are fertilized in the laboratory and the fertilized egg is placed directly into the uterus to help facilitate implantation into the uterus.

Female infertility can be extremely involved and difficult to diagnose and treat. This is usually due to the shear-complicated nature of the female body. With the addition of Assisted Reproductive Technologies, women today can usually be successful in conceiving a pregnancy.

Fertility drugs – gonadotropins

When it comes to conceiving a child, some couples have more difficult than others. The reproductive systems of the human body are very delicate and sometimes require some outside types of treatment in order to successfully allow the woman to conceive a child. There are many different types of medication that are available that can aid the process, and in this article, we’ll be focusing on a family of drugs known as gonadotropins so that you can learn more about the options that you have for fertility enhancement.

Gonadotropins are a type of drug that is usually prescribed to women who are unable to become fertile after trying to take another type of fertility drug known as clomiphene. Other problems may cause a doctor to prescribe gonadotropins without trying clomiphene first, such as women who have polycystic ovarian syndrome or luteal phase defects. The drug is injected into the body for a period of seven to twelve days, after which ovulation will be stimulated to a point where several eggs are produced. The shots should be taken roughly three days after the menstrual cycle begins, continuing to receive injections until the eggs mature. The shots can be taken in your own home, and doctors often train the female’s partner to administer the injections. You may also have to visit the doctor’s office several times in order to have ultrasounds and blood tests performed in order to ensure that the procedure is working as planned. Once the eggs have become mature, you will receive another type of gonadotropin shot that tells your body that it should release the eggs into the fallopian tubes. Ovulation will then begin in the next day and a half, and during that period, you should ensure that you have sex or schedule an intrauterine insemination with the fertility doctor in order to conceive. This type of procedure tends to work within the first three to six cycles. If a conception has not occurred after six cycles, the doctor may recommend a different course of action.

As with other drugs, gonadotropins have some side effects that you may experience when receiving the injections. Abdominal tenderness, weight gain, and fluid retention are amongst the most commonly occurring side effects. Another important factor to consider before taking gonadotropins is the chance of multiple births that you face. Between ten and forty percent of all women taking gonadotropins in order to increase their fertility end up having twins, triplets, or even more children from one conception. That being said, between twenty and sixty percent of all women who take gonadotropins to conceive are successful when it comes to having children. It is an expensive procedure, however, costing between two and six thousand dollars per cycle of drugs. Some insurance policies cover the procedure, however, so be sure to consult your company before making the decision. Be sure to heavily discuss the procedure with your fertility doctor in order to ensure that it is the proper process for you and that it will help you in your journey towards conception. Good luck!

Fertility drugs - clomiphene

When a woman is unable to successfully conceive a child despite her best efforts, she may need to consult a doctor in order to diagnose whether or not fertility drugs can be helpful when it comes to helping her achieve conception. In this article, we’ll let you know about one of the basic types of fertility drugs that are used to help women with fertility problems so that you will be able to understand what is out there.

Clomiphene is a commonly used type of fertility drug for women. It can be very helpful when a woman is not able to ovulate regularly, as it helps the female body to produce more of the hormones that are necessary in order to successfully ovulate on a regular schedule. In addition to helping the body to ovulate at periodic intervals, it also works to ensure that your body is producing mature eggs that will be fertile for conception. It comes in a pill format and is usually taken for around five days per month until a successful conception occurs. Women whose menstrual cycle is functioning normally should begin taking the drug between three and five days after the monthly cycle begins. Women who have irregular periods or have no periods at all should talk to a doctor about a Provera prescription which can help to stimulate ovulation so that clomiphene will be more effective. Every drug tends to have a side effect or two, and clomiphene is no different. Some women report feelings of swollen ovaries, stomach pain, headaches and nausea when taking the drug. The drug may also increase your fertility to the point that you may have twins when you conceive. Approximately ten percent of all conceptions that occur when taking clomiphene result in a case of twins. Many women find that the drug can be very effective when it comes to helping to stimulate their ovulation; as a matter of fact, approximately eighty percent of women who take the drug ovulate successfully within the first three months. A full forty percent of women taking the drug successfully conceive, with the number being lower than the ovulation rate due to other complications that may arise with the partner’s fertility or the female’s reproductive system.

Oddly enough, clomiphene is also useful when it comes to helping men who are infertile. The drug can be used by males in order to stimulate higher levels of sperm production as well as increasing the sperm’s motility (ability to move). This is due to the fact that the drug works in the hypothalamus of the brain in order to help the body to produce the correct levels of hormones, working much in the same way as it does in females.

Clearly, this type of drug can be of much help when it comes to trying to conceive a child, allowing both partners to experience increased fertility if they are having troubles. Speak with a doctor before considering taking clomiphene so that you can ensure that it is a safe decision.

Fertility drugs – bromocriptine

When it comes to helping women to become fertile enough to bear children, it is important to know all of the medical options that are available. In this article, we will work towards informing you about one of the types of treatment that a woman may want to consider; it is known as bromocriptine and it can be very useful in helping women with pituitary adenoma to conceive.

In order to understand if bromocriptine is the right type of medication for you, you need to first know exactly what pituitary adenoma is. It is a very specific type of condition that affects a small number of women. In those with pituitary adenoma, a benign tumor exists in the pituitary gland which tends to mess up the body’s releases of the various hormones that aid the reproductive process. To that end, bromocriptine helps the body to get back on track and working the way that it should. Bromocriptine is often prescribed to women who are experiencing symptoms of amenorrhea, or a lack of a period, or galactorrhea, which is a problem involving lactating while breastfeeding is not currently necessary. The drug helps to inhibit a type of secretion in the brain known as prolactin. It also works to shrink an adenoma that may be present near the pituitary gland that may be to blame for the infertility that the woman is experiencing.

In order to ensure that bromocriptine is a proper type of medication to be given for a particular case of infertility, doctors often monitor the levels of prolactin that are present in the woman’s body. If the prolactin levels show that the woman is unable to successfully ovulate due to an overload of the secretion, bromocriptine is often prescribed. It is a drug that tends to work fast, and if within two months after taking the drug, if no menstrual period occurs, the doctor may also recommend another drug known as clomiphene to be added to the woman’s regimen. The drug comes in a pill format and can be taken both orally and vaginally. Many doctors recommend that women taking the drug gradually increase their dosage from half of a pill to an entire pill over a period of time, as it lessens the possibility of the occurrence of side effects.

The drug can work wonders for women with infertility. Over seventy five percent of all women who are experiencing galactorrhea are able to ovulate successfully by taking the drug. After a woman stops taking the drug, however, hormone levels may begin to reset themselves to where they were before, causing approximately forty one percent of the women to be unable to achieve a period afterwards. While it is not a complete solution to the problems that women have with infertility, it is definitely helpful in a lot of cases. In order to make sure that bromocriptine is the right solution for you, you should speak to your doctor about your particular situation so that they can accurately assess what the best course of action for you will be.

Pilates for pregnancy

We’ve all heard about the pilates program at one point or another. With hundreds of movements incorporated into the exercise program, it’s received much critical acclaim in the pop culture world of today. Many people look to pilates in order to increase their flexibility and their muscle tone, but few realize the benefits that one can merit when it comes to using pilates in order to help new moms get their bodies back into shape.

The pilates program was created by Joseph Pilates as a way to increase the basic fitness, flexibility, balance, and tone of an individual. Since it’s recent rise in pop culture, more and more people have been subscribing to the program, and it’s benefits for certain groups have shown to be more effective than Joseph could have imagined. To that end, there are actually some pilates studios that are open today that are designed exclusively for helping women who have just had children to get their former body back.

While pilates isn’t an exercise program that focuses on fat-burning and weight loss, one of the things that it does stress is the strengthening of the muscle areas that Joseph Pilates referred to as the core, or the ‘powerhouse’. These muscles consist of the muscles that are in and around the back and abdomen. Consequently, this is the area that most pregnant women experience the most changes in post-pregnancy. Pilates programs for new mothers focus on the core exercises of the pilates program, working to strengthen the muscles of the pelvis, back and abdomen. Some of the studios even offer places for the newborns to stay while the mother is working out. For those who don’t have a post-natal pilates class available in their local area, there are DVDs and instructional videos online that you can purchase in order to get the benefits of a pilates workout in the courtesy of your own home.

New moms needn’t worry about exerting themselves extensively in the pilates program; it focuses on low-intensity workouts that can benefit the body in a less drastic way than the methods offered via a conventional workout. The benefits offered by the program aren’t limited to the physical body alone, either: many that indulge in the program find that they are faced with lower stress levels and a greater sense of peace after performing the workout. Also, while many workouts cause you to feel exhausted after participating in them, pilates may actually give rise to more energy! For these reasons, it’s a great program for women who have just delivered a child to get their bodies back in shape. While it is not a program that is known for its weight loss potential, when coupled with a high-intensity exercise program such as a swimming regimen, it can be great for your body. If you’ve just had a child and are looking to get your body back into shape, pilates may help you by providing a gentle increase in exercise and physical activity that can really benefit you.

Pilates ball exercises

One of the mainstays of the pilates workout program is the use of a pilates ball. Also known as a Swiss ball or simply an exercise ball, this simple piece of exercise equipment can allow you to perform a host of different exercises to help sculpt your body. They are low in cost with the average ball costing less than $50, and they come in a variety of sizes, usually ranging from 55 centimeters to 75 centimeters. Since the ball is hard to balance upon, it can help you to build up your stabilizers muscles which may not be built up in any other type of exercise. In this article, we’ll give you the lowdown on some of the basic exercises that you can partake in with the use of a pilates ball.

One of the most common exercises that are performed with a pilates ball is a basic abdominal crunch. Most everybody knows how to do a crunch, with common posture including folding your hands across your chest and laying on your back. When you contract your abdominal muscles, you pull your upper body off the ground, contracting the muscles to a great degree and consequently building muscle. It’s a little tough to get used to on an exercise ball, but the basic motion is exactly the same: lie with your back on the ball and your arms crossed, with your feet planted on the ground. Let your legs be bent at a ninety degree angle, with your knees over your feet. It’ll be tough to find a center of balance, so be sure that you’re stable before you begin the crunch motion.

The next basic ball exercise is known as a prone knee pull-in. A departure from standard forms of ground exercise, in this exercise, you’ll be in a push-up position with your legs draped over the top of the exercise ball, completely stretched out, and your palms touching the ground. Your hands should be directly underneath your shoulders. To begin the exercise, you’re going to want to bend your legs towards your upper body. This will cause the ball to roll towards you, with your legs still on the ball. Continue to pull the ball towards you until your thighs are almost touching your head, and then push the ball back. This exercise is great for building abs and legs, and it can be a great activity to add to your pilates routine.

The next exercise may have an intimidating name, but don’t let it fool you: it’s an easy and great way to add to your flexibility. For this activity, you’re going to want to lie on your back with your face pointed upwards. Put the exercise ball between your feet, and lift it skywards until you are in an ‘L’ shape with your body bent at a ninety degree angle. From here, you need to extend your legs towards your face, getting as close as you can. Keep your hands on the floor at your side, using your palms to balance your body. Once you’ve reached the farthest you can stretch, you should slowly bring the ball back towards the ninety degree angle you began in. Repeat until you cannot, and your hamstrings will surely experience an increased level of flexibility.

Pilates for golfers

When it comes to helping your golf game, there are literally thousands of options available out there. Some opt for buying specialized golf clubs that promise to increase the distance and the accuracy of your shot. Others may purchase video footage that can help them to develop the perfect swing. Still others may pay extensively in order to have an instructor judge their golf game. While these are all methods that may work to improve your tee shot, there is an alternative form of golf training that may seem odd to some.

Pilates is an exercise program that was created by a German man named Joseph Pilates while he was an internment camp during the first World War. The program was invented by Joseph in order to help those who were bedridden in the internment camp to exercise and get their bodies back into fitness. Since then, the exercise program has truly caught on around the world. Celebrities trumpet the benefits of the pilates program to a great extent, and pilates workout centers have sprung up around the world. There are some specialized forms of pilates that can be used to help women who have given birth to get their bodies back into shape. One subgroup of people who wouldn’t assume that pilates can help them with their problem is golfers. Where there is a will, there is a way, though, and some pilates centers have begun to offer pilates programs that promise to help golfers to overcome their golfing problems by getting their bodies into shape via the program. The pilates program has numerous benefits, including an increased flexibility, an added strength of the muscles of the abdomen and the back, and a better sense of balance. Posture is also improved through the regular use of a pilates exercise program, as the exercises focus on increasing the strength and flexibility of the spine. Pilates instructors argue that these differences in the body can be tantamount to developing a better golf game.

Through increasing the strength of the core (the muscles that are located in and around the abdomen and the back), pilates instructors hope to help golfers to develop a more powerful swing. They also argue that the body awareness that one gains through getting in touch with their body using pilates can be of assistance in making the proper motions in order to get a golfer’s swings to be more accurate. Breath control is also stressed in pilates, and many seasoned athletes have realized that the timing of breath can be crucial to a proper body movement. Free throws in basketball, for instance, are taught to be performed at the same point of breath every time, aiding the consistency of the movement. The goals of the program are sound, and consistent with the needs of a golfer who needs improvement. While it may not be a complete solution to poor golfing, it is a viable method of increasing your body control that you may want to consider participating in.

What is pilates?

Around the world, people are clamoring to learn more about the exercise program that is known as pilates. In this article, we’ll be discussing some of the basic ideals and methods of pilates to help you to better understand this workout technique that is becoming more and more commonplace by the day.

Pilates was created by a man of the same name. The program began roughly around the year 1914, in which Joseph Pilates was living a very active life as both a boxer and a performer. When the first World War began, Pilates was placed into an internment camp due to his German heritage. In the camp, he would begin to show his fellow bunkmates some techniques of exercise that he’d been working on by himself for the past twenty years. His program incorporated both techniques that he himself had created, as well as drawing upon fitness regimens that were used in ancient Rome and Greece. As the routine gained believers, Joseph worked as hard as he could to properly train instructors, taking the subject very personally to ensure that people were getting the proper benefits from the exercise.

So that leaves us with the question “What exactly is pilates?” In short, pilates is a system of over 500 different types of exercises that draw upon both the body of the participator as well as the mind. The exercises are designed to help make the body more flexible and strong without dramatically altering the size of the individual. Many of the exercises are focused on building ‘the core’ of the body. Pilates subscribers refer to ‘the core’ when they are speaking about the muscles of the abdomen, the back, and the pelvic region. Whereas normal exercise may make one feel exhausted and drained, pilates incorporates the use of non-high-intensity routines so that one may feel even more energetic after performing the exercises. Pilates can have numerous positive effects on the health and the fitness of the individual, with participators reporting a gain in strength as well as aided flexibility and a better sense of balance. Pilates can allow the individual to gain better posture through its many exercises, as well as increasing the range of circulation of the joints. While some prefer to exclusively perform pilates, many choose to use pilates to supplement a standard fitness routine. Circulation can also be improved through pilates, and joint stress and body aches can be relieved through the activity. In addition to the host of positive effects the exercise has on the body, the mind can receive just as much positive influence. You’ll find yourself to be more aware of your body and engaging your mind in the activity can prove to be an efficient method of stress relief.

There is a vast cross-section of the population taking part in the benefits of pilates; participants of all ages and physical conditions can benefit from the effects. The average pilates program includes a session of pilates between two and four times per week. If you’re interested in the exercise, you can do it either on your own through the use of books or videos to guide your practice, or you can participate in group sessions in which you learn to enjoy pilates amongst others. The options are out there – it’s up to you to decide exactly what you want to do and if pilates is the right exercise program for you.

Watch out for a child diabetes symptom – It Can Save You a Lot of Problems

There are many signs that will indicate that your child has diabetes. You will have to watch out carefully if you have any doubts whether your child does or does not have diabetes. You can check whether the child has sugar in the urine. Besides that, the child will be urinating a lot, drinking a lot of water, and/or loosing weight. The child might also be very hungry or very tired all the time and become very irritable.

Diabetes is a very problematic disease and needs to be treated at the earliest possible time. You will need to watch for any child diabetes symptom which can be indicative of this sickness in your child. In case your child is drinking much more water than normal, do not restrict the intake of water unless you are sure that this is not because of diabetes. In case you stop the child from drinking water, and he/she is suffering from diabetes, you will risk the child getting dehydrated since the urination will remain frequent.

Another important child diabetes symptom is when the child gets tired much too often.

A diabetic child will get tired very often, and very early in play. This child diabetes symptom will be almost always be associated with acute thirst and frequent urination.

Of course, in order to be sure whether you are reading the child diabetes symptom or symptoms correctly, you will always need to run a blood test which will confirm the disease, if present. Unfortunately, there is no other way to be sure whether your child has diabetes or not, unless you run a blood test.

Sometimes the excessive thirst will be associated with another very common child diabetes symptom, which is excessive hunger. This is one symptom that all mothers will love and hence it will be difficult for a mother to see it as warning sign in her child. However, if the child is too thirsty and always hungry, it is a matter of concern. You will also notice that inspite of the child’s increased hunger; he/she will not actually eat too much, and also will be loosing weight rather than gaining weight.

Every child diabetes symptom is a sign which needs to be read correctly in order to uncover the underlying diabetes in the child. Diabetes is a serious disease if left untreated, and it is imperative that it is caught in time and treated as early as possible.

Diabetes and Pregnancy

According to the American Association of Diabetes, there are two types of diabetes. Type I and Type II. The first one affects, mostly, children and adolescents, and the second often affects older overweight adults. The extreme cases are reserved for people with genetic problems.

But, what about diabetes and pregnancy? Is it possible for a pregnant mother to acquire diabetes during pregnancy? Should a diabetic mother get pregnant? Is there a relation between diabetes and pregnancy? As a matter of fact, a woman who suffers from diabetes should consider very carefully prior to getting pregnant since it implies a lot of discipline and risk.

A Third Type of Diabetes?

Setting aside Type I and Type II diabetes, mothers who wish to have a baby, there is another possibility for acquiring diabetes. Also known as gestational diabetes, it is developed in the late stages of pregnancy. Although this type of diabetes goes away after the baby has been born, the mother has a higher probability of acquiring Type II diabetes later in her life.

So, there is a relation between diabetes and pregnancy, after all. Any future mother should be very careful about this condition. It is similar to Type II diabetes since the body resists the assimilation of insulin. The symptoms are a bit different from the typical victim of diabetes Type II.

A mother with gestational diabetes will notice an abnormal increase in weight. This is because the baby will increase its fetal urination due to the high levels of glucose in the blood. Generally, pregnant women have a diabetes test between the 24th and 28th week of pregnancy to ensure that they are not affected.

This kind of diabetes is very rare. It only affects 2% to 3% of the total population of pregnant women. There are some factors that increase the risk of acquiring gestational diabetes. For example, being overweight, the age of the mother (the risk increases as the mother gets older), a family history of Type II diabetes, native background, gestational diabetes in a previous pregnancy or a previous pregnancy were the child weighed 9 pounds or more.

What Should a Mother Do When Diabetes and Pregnancy Mix?

Statistics show that as much as 40% of the women, who have suffered from gestational diabetes, will develop Type II diabetes in a period of 5 to 10 years. If you don’t want to suffer from this disease, consult your doctor and follow his directions strictly. Although you can have a normal life with Type II diabetes, it’s better to avoid it.

Does A Diabetes Cure Exist?

Unfortunately there is no diabetes cure yet. Diabetes is a very complicated disease that is divided into two types. Type I which is considered the mildest and Type II which could endanger the life of a person. Either way, science hasn’t been able to discover how to eradicate it. The good thing is that it seems that we may soon see a
