HEADACHE

“Do not undervalue the headache. While it is at its sharpest it seems a bad investment; but when relief begins, the un-expired remainder is worth $4 a minute.”- Mark Twain quotes.

Cephalalgia, sometimes spelled cephalgia is the medical term for headache. It means pain in the head caused by dilation of cerebral arteries or muscle contractions.

Its origin can be traced back to the Bible and the medical books of ancient Egypt, Babylonia, Greece, Rome, India, and China. In ancient medical papyri, headache emphasizes the role of head trauma and of 'pain matter' occurring in the body. A headache is known to be one of the most common universal ailments. It is more of a symptom than a disease. It is a sign of a serious health problem. It can be either a disorder of its own or a symptom for an underlying disease.

The term “Headache” might sound simple; but it is like any other chronic ailment, which has to be controlled. A headache is not the same for everyone. The pain varies from mild to severe. It has several characteristics like mild, intermittent, throbbing, sharp and constant which can last from a few seconds or minutes to long hours.
Some headaches can occur in the forehead, neck region, temple alone, one sided, just above the ears, back of the head (almost in the neck region) and in the center. For a few people, the headache may occur rarely (once in a month), while for others very frequently or in clusters that occur frequently over several weeks, and then disappear for months or even years. The most problematic headaches are those that occur frequently, or even daily, over months or years.
The reasons for headaches vary from simple tension, stress, eye, ear or teeth problems to major problems in the head like bleeding, tumor or infection in the brain. Immediate medical attention is required if any of the following symptoms persist.
1. There is a sudden onset of headache, which is different from the previous time you had a headache.
2. If it is persistent for many days and worsens day by day.
3. Accompanied by Concomitant infection (infection in the lung).
4. Headache is accompanied by stiff neck, body pain, fever, nausea and vomiting or altered mental status.
5. Decreased level of consciousness.
6. Persistent tachycardia.
A headache is a day-to-day issue for pregnant women. The reason for the same is due to a sudden increase in the hormone level. High sexual excitement, people with high blood pressure, misuse or persistent use of medication or using over the counter medication, lazy posture that exerts pressure on the neck and scalp muscle, sleeping for very long hours or dozing on the bed and also sudden withdrawing of caffeine can induce dull headaches, which last for about half an hour.
Headache may sometimes take the person into a vicious cycle. Mostly headaches dampen the enthusiasm of an individual in their day-to-day activities and limit their ability to work. This, In turn leads to feelings of depression and exhaustion, which are strong triggers for headaches. Whatever may be the case, never allow it to take control over your life.

Acne Prevention

One of the most prevalent chronic skin conditions in the world today is acne. Millions of people all over the world suffer from this condition. It is indiscriminant, striking people from all walks of life.

Although there are many causes for acne, heredity being a major factor, some studies indicate that excess hormones in the sebaceous glands cause acne.
Acne has an overwhelming impact on those who suffer from it. With acne comes the agony of having to face people on a day-to-day basis. Acne can greatly reduce the self-esteem of sufferers. Skin experts realized this fact early on and have developed guidelines for acne prevention.

The number one rule is never trying to pick or pop the lesions that the acne causes. It is important because when you pick or pop the lesion, it can cause scarring or even spread the acne to other locations on the face or body.

Another acne prevention guideline is to wash your face with mild or sulfur soap a minimum of twice a day. It is important to remember not to scrub your face, but use a gentle circular motion and to pat your face dry with a soft towel. Arming yourself with acne prevention guidelines will assist you in controlling your acne.

Avoiding products that have an oil base will also assist in preventing an outbreak of acne. If you wear make-up, purchase the type of make up that does not clog your pores. It may be a little more expensive, but you will like the results in helping with acne prevention.

Still another acne prevention recommendation is that you avoid grease that is airborne. This type of grease is in fast food restaurants. If you or your teenager play sports, just the rubbing that occurs when wearing sports equipment can cause an onset of acne. It is recommended for acne prevention that you try to minimize any rubbing or friction while you are in your gear.
There are some experts that believe that if you give acne prevention medications time to work, they will clear up the acne. The problem with this is that it could take months even up to a year for the acne prevention medication to work. No one wants to wait that long.

There are acne prevention specialists who will recommend non-prescription medication and topical creams. Most of these contain Benzoyl Peroxide, which works as an acne prevention agent.

These types of acne prevention medications can be found in virtually all pharmacies and even in grocery stores. Benzoyl Peroxide is the active ingredient because of its antibacterial properties. It has been proven effective for reducing or eliminating acne-causing bacteria.

Salicylic acid is another ingredient to look for when trying to find an acne prevention medication. Its purpose is to reduce or eliminate shedding skin along the hairline and around the follicles. There are so many different acne prevention medications on the market today that were developed to stop the growth of acne causing bacteria. Some are readily available, and some are so strong that they can have serious side effects.

Accutane is one of them. Acne prevention specialists will only prescribe this medication if nothing else works. They will advise the patient that side effects could include red, dry, irritated skin and in extreme cases, birth defects.

Acne Creams

Acne creams are a popular method of combating acne and are normally used on a daily basis. While these acne creams make good ammunition in stopping acne attacks, they are not of much help when it comes to curing blotchy skin. However, these creams can help prevent similar attacks in the future.

The usage of acne creams should not be taken lightly, since proper and improper usage can affect the appearance of skin, even in areas not affected by acne. Acne creams are available in natural as well as in medication form. Some skin types will respond better to acne creams that contain natural ingredients and no manufactured chemicals. Do these creams work? This is a tricky question and the only answer can be found by trying out the acne cream to see how it works for you.

Here are some of the acne creams available:

Oxy10 Balance Emergency Spot Treatment
This is a prescription strength acne cream that can be purchased over the counter (OTC). Reviews and testimonials seem to indicate that people feel this is probably one of the best acne creams available. It has helped people get rid of acne that was too stubborn and persistent for other acne creams. Some people with sensitive skin have reported that this acne cream is a little too strong and that it should only be applied to places that are already blemished or spotted. It takes only a few applications of this acne cream to dry up pimples and clear skin problems. A well-documented side effect of this cream is irritation, so it is not recommended to use it as a daily preventative.

Klear Action Acne Treatment
This is another highly popular acne cream that can help people to treat an acne condition. The major strengths of the Klear Action Acne Treatment are that it is a very safe and long lasting solution to acne problems. It is applied directly to affected areas and it does not take too many applications before good results become apparent.

Skinoren Acne Cream
Another acne cream that can now be used in treating acne is Skinoren Acne Cream. This acne cream uses the anti-microbial properties of azelaic acid as well as the direct influence of follicular hyperkeratosis to enhance its effectiveness in treating acne. Like most acne creams, Skinoren Acne Cream is meant to be used externally and is applied directly to affected areas in order to treat mild to moderate cases of acne vulgaris. It has been observed in some cases that Skinoren Acne Cream can cause side effects like skin irritation, redness and a burning sensation when the treatment is started. However, most known side effects vanish as the treatment progresses. Another side effect that has been reported with the usage of this acne cream is photosensitivity.

Who Qualifies for LASIK Surgery?

The possibility of complications or imperfect vision after LASIK vision correction can be greatly reduced if you simply find out if you are a good prospect for the surgery. Not everyone who wants LASIK vision correction is necessarily a good candidate to have the surgery. You should consider a few things before you settle on LASIK:

  • If you don’t like to take a chance every now and then, you probably shouldn’t have LASIK vision correction. There are possibilities of complications as a result of LASIK that you should research before having the procedure done.
  • If having LASIK vision correction could affect your career or is not covered by your insurance you should think of another alternative. The cost of LASIK is getting cheaper, but is still quite expensive and you’ll want to make sure it isn’t prohibited by your employer.
  • You must be an adult with refractive stability to be accepted for LASIK vision correction. Refractive instability is determined by patients who are 20 or younger with fluctuating hormones due to such things as diabetes or someone who is pregnant or breastfeeding or taking medications that cause fluctuation in vision.
  • If you regularly engage in contact sports or suffer from a condition or disease may affect wound healing you should consider an alternative to LASIK vision correction.

There are a number of other situations you should discuss with your doctor prior to LASIK vision correction. If you have herpes or shingles involving the eye area you should disclose that information. Also, any glaucoma, ocular hypertension, eye diseases, eye injuries, previous eye surgeries, or keratoconus should be discussed.

You should also ask your doctor to screen you for the following conditions prior to LASIK vision correction:

  • Blepharitis
  • Large pupils
  • Thin corneas
  • Previous refractive surgeries
  • Dry eyes

Once you have researched all of these conditions or discussed them with a LASIK surgeon you can determine if you are a candidate for LASIK vision correction.

What to Look for in a LASIK Surgeon

After considering if you are the right candidate for LASIK you should then begin shopping for a LASIK surgeon. Even though the risks of LASIK are quite a bit less than normal surgeries, you should still take researching a LASIK surgeon seriously. Take the normal precautions of comparing, setting criteria, doing your homework, and understanding what will happen in the surgery.

Compare what each LASIK surgeon relies on as their procedure of choice. Do they rely on the traditional LASIK that uses a blade to make the incision or do they use “bladeless” InterLase lasers to make all of the cuts. Ask what they believe is most reliable and what they do the most.

Set forth a base of criteria that you will hold each LASIK surgeon to. Don’t base it solely on cost or on the doctor’s experience, but see if they perform what you feel most comfortable with. This decision will affect YOU for the rest of YOUR life, not the surgeon’s.

Do your homework to avoid scams related to the “20/20 vision or guaranteed money back”. Make sure you check these doctors against the consumer affairs office or better business bureau to ensure that they do good practice. Understand what your rights are when it comes to having surgery and LASIK in general.

Understand what can happen during the surgery and ask your potential LASIK surgeon how they handle a situation that could potentially end a procedure. There is a chance a mistake could lead to permanent damage to your eye without even a chance to have corrective surgery.

Ask the same questions of your LASIK surgeon in relation to how he deals with situations after surgery. Question your LASIK surgeon about how they handle migration of the flap, inflammation or infection, intensive eye drop treatments, or additional procedures after the initial surgery.

LASIK surgeons are also held to an FDA standard regarding the type of laser used during the surgery. Make sure you find out what laser your potential LASIK surgeon uses and double-check it against the FDA’s approved list.

During LASIK Surgery

Most of the fear related to any type of surgery lies in the unknown element of the procedure. LASIK laser eye surgery is no different than any other type of procedure. LASIK laser eye surgery is actually a very simple process that can be explained easily.

You will sit down in a reclining chair in a room specially designed for LASIK laser eye surgery. There will be a large machine with a microscope attached to it and a computer screen as part of a laser system. The whole process should not take more than 30 minutes to complete.

The first step your doctor will take is to clean your eye and place a numbing drop of liquid in it. With the LASIK laser eye surgery now underway a ring will be placed around the eye to create suction to the cornea. This will cause the first discomfort of the surgery and blurred vision, but it will only be temporary.

While the suction ring is still around your eye a cutting instrument, called microkeratome, is used to cut a flap in your cornea. From this point on during the LASIK laser eye surgery you will experience some fluctuating blurred vision.

During the evaluation for LASIK laser eye surgery your doctor should have informed you that you will need to be able to stare at a laser for 60 seconds or more during the surgery. You will do this after the tissue has been folded back and dried out by the doctor during the procedure. The laser will direct your eye to the spot that the surgical laser will use to perform the vision correction.

At this point LASIK laser eye surgery may take on an unexpected smell, that of something burning. This is probably because your eye is under the intense scrutiny of the laser that is correcting your vision problems. Though the laser may make some very human sounds (ticking) and smells (burning hair) it is still a very controlled process.

The computer in the room that is hooked up to the laser controls the amount of energy delivered to your eye. Some tissue will be vaporized and finally the flap of the corneal tissue is put back in place, effectively ending LASIK laser eye surgery.

After LASIK laser eye surgery is completed your doctor will supply you with a shield or patch for your eye to prevent irritation. You will quickly realize how many times your eye gets bumped or you involuntarily rub it when you cannot do so. Wear the patch and save yourself some heartache.

Custom LASIK

What if you went in for brain surgery and the doctor told you they weren’t going to do what was best for you, but what seemed to work best for MOST people? Would you be concerned? Do you think this type of surgery would be safe for your future or the doctor’s career? I didn’t think so, now there is something to correct this problem, a new procedure called custom LASIK.

Custom LASIK uses three dimensional images of your eyes and how they accept light to determine the best route for your surgery. This procedure called custom LASIK using wave-front technology is more precise than any pair of glasses, contacts, or even other LASIK procedures.

By using a few simple computer-generated tests to analyze the way your eye refracts light, the computer determines the best course of action. The fact that this custom LASIK uses the three dimensional image particular to the patient, the chance for an uneven or poorly constructed flap over the cornea is reduced.

There are more hoops for you to jump through if you are going to be a patient in custom LASIK surgery:

  • You must be qualified by the FDA based on your eye condition before receiving custom LASIK.
  • Your doctor will present your choices regarding extra costs for your custom LASIK.
  • Your doctor will determine if your eye’s condition is such that custom LASIK presents the best result.

What are the advantages of custom LASIK?

  • Better chance of 20/20 vision or better.
  • Reduced chance of night vision disturbances or glaring.
  • Reduced chance of losing visual quality or contrast sensitivity.

Studies show that despite the cost of custom LASIK, more people are opting for this procedure than regular LASIK. However, it is important to discuss with your doctor what is correctable before the surgery. Even though custom LASIK is the most efficient form of LASIK it does not correct any type of eye problem at this time.

Bladeless LASIK

While LASIK is a relatively low risk surgery, bladeless LASIK eliminates the one area where most complications arise, the metal blade. Aside from the fear it strikes into the heart of those who fear traditional surgery, it still has a very human error rate in a very difficult low-percentage situation.

While many people who are rejected for LASIK are rejected for thin corneas, bladeless LASIK offers these people a second chance. IntraLase lasers offer a more controlled environment in the bladeless LASIK surgery. Instead of cutting through with a blade, the laser is guided by computer technology.

The IntraLase laser allows for more curvature during the bladeless LASIK surgery, reducing the margin for error. The fact that it is a laser and not a blade also lends to the idea of avoiding infections or contaminations. Bladeless LASIK prevents long-term recovery that accompanies most surgeries.

Prior to LASIK a lot of people had unsafe or imperfect surgeries to correct vision that eliminated them from the opportunity to try LASIK. With bladeless LASIK, these potential customers get a second chance because of the near 100% success rate of the procedure.

Some patients follow traditional LASIK with follow-ups to make other corneal flaps or reduce eye-irritation. Bladeless LASIK with InterLase appear to have reduced the possibility of this happening.

The natural reaction to the thought of bladeless LASIK is that it eliminates the need for a practiced and season doctor to perform the surgery. While it may be true to a point, the fact is that bladeless LASIK requires a good deal of knowledge in physics and engineering.

While surgeons may have only been required to have knowledge of medicine and anatomy in the past, they now must be computer savvy. The advantages of bladeless LASIK seem to boil down to two basic ideas, a higher success rate and less chance of follow-up procedures.

After LASIK Surgery

The moment after a major life-altering event is usually filled with joy, laughter, and camaraderie, but this usually doesn’t happen after surgery. LASIK surgery is no different than any other surgery, but its drawbacks may be a little different than others.

The results of LASIK surgery are much akin to the results of being pestered by a pet day after day. Instead of the healing of bruises or incisions, LASIK surgery is accompanied by more burning and itching of an area that you are completely unable to scratch or cool. At this point, any touching of the eye could undo everything the surgery just repaired.

Your vision will be blurry because of the watering and tearing up of your eye, but you cannot under any circumstances touch your eye. The eye may appear dry or bloodshot for several days, if this occurs you should consider taking time off of work. If you experience severe pain from LASIK surgery at any time you should contact your surgeon.

Within 24-48 hours after your surgery you should have a post-operative exam to make sure everything is healing well. At regular intervals after the LASIK surgery up to six months you should continue seeing your doctor for checkups.

At the first visit after LASIK surgery your doctor will remove the shield and make sure your eye is responding correctly to the surgery. You will not be able to use contact lenses for sometime to keep from further irritation and you may have to use drops or artificial tears to help with lubricating the eye.

You will be urged to abstain from any contact sports or activities for several days as well as continuing to keep from lotions or perfumes that could irritate the eye. The doctor may advise you to regularly wash your eyes out in the weeks following LASIK surgery to prevent infection.

It may take several months to stabilize your vision after LASIK surgery has taken place. You may experience some small visual impairment during this time, including halos or glare due to the eye’s healing process. These are normal in the first few months after surgery, but if they persist you should contact your doctor.

2 Dangerous Myths About Diabetes Dispelled

There are myths about virtually everything that one can think of, especially on the subject of diabetes. If you are a diabetic then it is important to wade through the untruths and understand the realities of living with this disease. Fortunately, most myths that you may hear about diabetes are not nearly as negative as they sound. In fact, many are just flat out lies.

Below are a few myths about diabetes that you may or may not have heard:

Myth #1: Becoming hypoglycemic can cause brain damage because it kills brain cells.
The experience of hypoglycemia can come on extremely fast and leave a diabetic with an extreme headache that is accompanied by weakness and at times mass confusion. Because of these complications that result from hypoglycemia, people have assumed that this can link directly to the killing of brain cells and eventually destroy the function of your mind.
However, studies upon studies over the years have proven that people that suffer from the effects of hypoglycemia do not lose any mental function whatsoever. Children on the other hand, may indeed experience some loss of mental functioning because their brains are still not fully developed.

The good news is that the human body has an endless supply of hormones that are able to reverse the effects of hypoglycemia. And in addition to your body's defense mechanisms, there are things that a person can do directly to prevent hypoglycemia. For example, before embarking into heavy exercise be sure to check your blood glucose levels as well as keep with you an emergency supply of glucose that your body can absorb rapidly.

Myth #2: Now that you have diabetes you cannot exercise.
This is probably the most dangerous myth about diabetes that can have life or death consequences. In fact, the direct opposite is true. If anybody should exercise it is men and women that have diabetes! Routine exercise is probably the most beneficial preventative measure that a person can utilize in order to defend against complications that result from type 1 or type 2 diabetes.

This does not mean that if you've never exercised in your life and are over the age of 40, then you should run out and start participating in marathons, but it does mean that you can slowly start conditioning your body with slow walks and light exercise that can increase in intensity over time.

Is there ever a time when diabetes can prevent you from exercising? Of course, for example when a person is suffering because of a severe kidney infection, or hemorrhaging of the eyes, etc. However, this is just common sense and is not in any way, shape, or form a reason not to exercise on a daily basis once these symptoms subside.

Causes Of Hair Loss: Is Your Hair Loss The Result Of Self-Poisoning?

Did you know that many people start loosing their hair as a result of accidental poisoning? Not all toxins and poisons that get into the bloodstream will cause a person's hair to fall out, but some will cause hair loss when just a small amount is ingested.

Hair loss is actually one of the first signs that a person has been poisoned. Many people become sick from a common household product known as rat poisoning. There is an ingredient in most rat poisoning products called warfarin. When consumed, this substance can cause immediate hair loss. Ironically enough, warfarin can be used as a medicine when given in small amounts.

Other Toxins To Consider
As a highly industrial society, people are constantly surrounded by many toxins and poisons that they have never considered as a possible reason for fatigue and common sickness, especially hair loss. For example, metal salts and standard heavy metals can cause hair loss when inhaled over a long period of time. Such examples include thallium, bismuth, arsenic, mercury, gold, cadmium, and lithium.
What is very frightening is that many of these forms of toxins, especially organic metal salts, are constantly being absorbed by our bodies. How? Because they are used in the manufacturing so many of the products that we use on a daily basis.

Arsenic & Hair Loss
A good example of this madness is arsenic. Did you know that this dangerous poison is used to make glass, insecticides, fungicides, and even as wood preservatives – which is standardly used in the furniture we rest on? As you can probably assume, since hair loss is directly related to ingesting these toxins, it is a problem that most balding men and women have never considered.

Mercury & Hair Loss
Another scary example of a toxin that causes balding is Mercury. So many of us are ignorant to the fact that Mercury poisoning is abundant in most seafoods. If Mercury can lead to hair loss, then imagine how many health problems people are inviting into their lives because of the large amounts of sea food eaten. And consider also the many medicines and vaccines that are given each year to both children and adults. A large percentage of them contain mercury. It is no wonder that hair loss has become increasingly problematic as time goes by.

Vitamins & Hair Loss
Last but not least, a person can be poisoned by taking too many vitamins. I know it is hard to believe that a good thing can cause such a terrible experience like hair loss, but it is true. The best example of an overdose of vitamins which would lead to balding would be that of vitamin A. If a person consumes anywhere from 50,000 – 200,000 units of vitamin A over a time span of a few months, they can start to experience hair loss.

Using a Liver Cleanser

If you are interested in keeping your body healthy, if you have already been diagnosed with liver disease, or if liver problems run in your family, you will want to find out more information about using a liver cleanser. The liver is an important organ in the body, and if your liver fails, or is riddled with disease, you will lose, at the very least, the ability to enjoy your life to the fullest. Liver disease, if left unopposed, will even cause death. Because the liver is so important, let’s see how easy it is to find and use a liver cleanser.

Finding a liver cleanser will be easy when you know where to look. The first place you should start is your heath food store. The employees in most health food stores will be able to give you advice about the most popular liver cleansers and how to use them.

You may also want to try an internet search when getting more information about a liver cleanser. If you are able to find a forum about liver cleansers, or cleansers in general, you will be able to ask your questions and get the advice of many people that have already tried different products. If you have a particular product in mind that you want to use, you may be able to find testimonials of how it worked for previous consumers. The internet will also give you a larger selection of places to order your liver cleanser from. Be sure to read the ingredients of each product and research these ingredients so you are confident you are getting the best liver cleanser for you.

When using a liver cleanser, you should feel comfortable with the product and the process. If you are unsure of how to use one, or you want professional help, be sure to consult with a doctor before trying the product. They may be able to tell you about another product or option that you weren’t aware of.

Alternative Treatments For Anxiety

In addition to psychotherapy, prescription medication and herbal supplements, there is also alternative treatment available for anxiety worth looking into, including self-help, relaxation or holistic techniques. What are some of these techniques?

In terms of holistic healing, acupressure, originally from Chinese medicine, has been listed by some as an effective way to reduce anxiety, though it's primarily intended as pain relief. This practice involves the application of pressure or massage to specific parts of the body. Other spiritual-oriented practices include Yoga which originates from India and various Hindu beliefs, which teaches stretch and relax techniques that can effectively reduce a person's amount of anxiety.

There is a host of other meditation techniques that help a person to relax and internally focus on positive thoughts which naturally reduces the amount of stress or anxiety a person feels from day to day. Most meditational practices can be traced to a set of ancient religious beliefs, which many people may find intimidating. However, the act of deeply focusing on positive thoughts and eliminating the anxieties of the day from your mind is a very healthy practice whether or not you count Chakras or Kundalini.

In addition to holistic or meditational treatment, there is also self-help treatment that can be learned from the comfort of your own home, at no significant cost or without any professional advice. Some common techniques that are often disregarded in favor of medication include: diaphragmatic breathing, which sees a person breath deeply as opposed to quick chest breathing that increases anxiety; stress management, which emphasizes the need for a person to make changes in their life to avoid the sources of stress that contribute to anxiety; panic attack coping strategies, which involve self-reassuring talk; and self-therapy, which sees a person try and self-examine their anxiety and the best way to cope with the feelings.

Experts in the psychology field have also suggested that there is such a thing as "boredom anxiety", which sees residual generalized anxiety fester over time as the result of a person's boredom in life; no goals, no spiritual outlooks or deeper meaning to be found in every day life. The answer in this case, of course, would be to find something in life that's worthwhile and makes a person happy.

Improved physical health has also been suggested as a "cure" for general anxiety. Proper dieting, including a reduction of caffeine, sugar and fatty foods, has been shown to reduce anxiety and promote mental health. Regular exercise relieves stress and anxiety, as well as an improved sleeping schedule. Even laughter has been recommended as a quick stress-reliever.

However, these are all coping strategies for general anxiety. Some professionals and patients will agree that alternative treatment cannot help major anxiety disorders that may be the result of trauma or genetics. In extreme cases of anxiety disorder, psychiatric or at least psychotherapeutic treatment would be recommended over these alternative treatments, which work best relieving general anxiety and stress. If you believe you suffer from a major anxiety disorder and common techniques prove ineffective then contact a doctor about seeking additional treatment.

Offbeat treatments for bad breath

Sometimes, keeping good care of your mouth via brushing your teeth, flossing, and using mouthwash isn't enough to fend off a case of bad breath. For that reason, many seek alternative forms of clearing up their bad breath. In this article, we'll examine some relatively unknown methods that may work to help remove a case of bad breath.

One of the most important things that you can do to help ease a case of bad breath is to ensure that you are getting zinc in your diet. Since chronic bad breath is largely caused by the presence of bacteria in the mouth that are releasing sulfurous compounds, stopping these compounds from being released is tantamount to solving the problem. That's where zinc comes in - it's a compound that binds itself to sulfur, so when you have some zinc in your mouth, the bad breath smells may be negated. There are actually several different ways of getting the zinc that you need to extinguish bad breath: there are mouthwashes available that contain the compound, as well as toothpastes and cold lozenges which are rich in zinc.

Next, it's important to ensure that you have the best type of toothpaste suited for clearing up bad breath. Studies have shown that the most effective type of toothpaste used for dealing with bad breath are toothpastes that contain stannous fluoride. When testing toothpaste with stannous fluoride as its active ingredient against different types of toothpaste, including ones that contained anti-tartar agents and ones that contained anti-microbial agents, researchers found that the toothpaste that contained stannous fluoride was best for dealing with bad breath.

One alternative form of treatment for bad breath is just beginning to become popular. It involves the use of a laser to eliminate bad breath that emanates from the tonsils, causing the problem to be previously unsolvable. The fifteen minute laser therapy works by zapping the tonsils so that bacteria can no longer live upon them, eliminating that particular source of bad breath. While this method only works for those who have bad breath that stems from their tonsils, it's important to note.

If you're wondering exactly how your breath smells, it can be tough to tell. We often become conditioned to the smell of our own breath, good or bad, causing us to be unsure of exactly how fresh our breath smells to everyone else. If you're wondering how your breath smells, you can find out by licking your wrist. Allow the saliva to dry on your wrist for a minute, and then smell it. You should be able to get a basic idea of how your breath smells.

These are just some simple tricks that can help you to solve your problems with bad breath. If your condition persists or is accompanied by respiratory issues, you should speak with a doctor to determine the cause of your bad breath.

Halitosis: the basics of bad breath

Bad breath is a problem that can affect anyone from time to time. It's a very unattractive problem that can lead to a decrease in social standings. In this article, we'll examine the problem posed by halitosis, work towards understanding the problem, and offer some solutions for solving the problem.

the problem. There are actually three different types of halitosis: they are known as transient bad breath and chronic bad breath. Transient bad breath occurs normally in most people, and is a temporary issue. It is most often caused by a dryness of the mouth, stress, a need to eat, odors left by certain foods, smoking, or not taking care of your dental health. This type of bad breath will disappear on its own eventually, but can be quickly aided by the presence of gum or a brushing of the teeth. Chronic bad breath, on the other hand, is a problem that is faced by roughly twenty five percent of the population. Chronic bad breath can cause a person to feel stressed out and may make them have lower self esteem. Chronic bad breath may be caused by the presence of bacteria in the mouth. In particular, the bacterium known as streptococcus mutans is most often responsible for a case of chronic bad breath. Fetor hepaticus is a severe form of bad breath that is actually caused by a failure of the liver. This type of bad breath is especially excruciating, and the smell that it causes can be extremely foul.

While our mouths are home to many different forms of bacteria, there is a type of bacteria known as anaerobic bacteria that can really be the cause of bad breath. This type of bacteria lives on the tongue and continues to grow, using the food that we eat and dead cells to multiply. These types of bacteria undergo anaerobic respiration, which causes them to release sulfur compounds that can cause bad breath. Other health problems such as periodontis, helminthiasis, diabetes, and gastroesophageal reflux disease may also be responsible for bad breath.

When it comes to treating a problem with bad breath, you have numerous options. While some opt for the quick fix of mints or mouthwash, these solutions only provide a temporary means for getting rid of the bad breath. Also, you should be cautioned to avoid the use of alcohol-based mouthwashes to treat your bad breath; they dry out the mouth, and may cause more trouble than they are worth. It is of the utmost importance to ensure that you are not leaving particles of food in your mouth that allow for the bacteria to multiply. To that end, you are recommended to brush after every meal and floss on a daily basis. You may also want to consider purchasing a tongue brush, a specialized device that can help to remove the bacteria present on the tongue.

Now that you know some of the basics of bad breath, you are better suited to fighting the problem. Cleanliness and dedication are paramount to keeping your bad breath problem under control.

Bad breath facts

Bad breath is a problem that we can all sympathize with. It happens to all of us at one point or another, and the more that you know about it, the better suited that you are to deal with it. In this article, we'll be relaying some facts regarding halitosis(bad breath) so that you can have an increased knowledge on the subject.

  • Approximately sixty five percent of all Americans face a problem with bad breath. Of these people, over forty million experience symptoms of chronic halitosis - a case of bad breath that just doesn't go away.- While there are many, many reasons that one may have bad breath, approximately ninety percent of all bad breath causes are due to the presence of bacteria in the mouth.- Across America, people are spending more and more to try to mask a problem with bad breath. Over a billion dollars per year are spent by people trying to avoid social awkwardness due to their problem.
  • Most cases of bad breath are caused by the presence of anaerobic bacteria within the mouth. These bacteria release compounds that are known as volatile sulfur compounds, or VSCs, which are responsible for the smell we associate with bad breath. Hydrogen sulfide, methyl mercaptan, and many other compounds are present in this mixture.- The bacterium that are responsible for the release of VSCs may be aided by the consumption of high-protein foods. Milk and cheese are two surefire ways of adding to a problem with bad breath that is caused by anaerobic bacteria.- One method of solving a bad breath problem that many people don't realize is to increase the amount of saliva that is present in your mouth. A dry mouth can be a perfect breeding ground for these bacteria, so you must stimulate your salivary glands by ensuring that you are getting enough water on a daily basis, as well as chewing gum to aid salivation if necessary. Also, you should avoid drinking alcohol, because in addition to causing digestive troubles, it dries out the mouth.
  • While many people feel that bacteria live on the surface of the tongue, it's not true. They actually live in between the fibers that make up your tongue, so although a tongue brush can be helpful in fighting bad breath, it will not fully solve the problem.
  • Bad breath can actually reveal an underlying problem. For instance, diabetics may discover that they have a sweet odor to their breath. If you have a case of bad breath that is unique and is not going away, you may want to wish to a doctor, as there are over twenty different diseases that can cause chronic bad breath.

These are just a few tidbits to help to aid in your knowledge of halitosis. The more that you know about the problem, the more versed you are in handling it. For that reason, if you're faced with the problem, you should surround yourself in information that can prove to be helpful in solving the issue.

Tools for the fight against bad breath

Bad breath can be a chronic problem for some people. When bad breath occurs day in and day out, you may find yourself with lowered self esteem and less social interaction due to the problem. In this article, we'll discuss some of the things that you should purchase in order to fight your problem with bad breath as efficiently as possible.

First and foremost, taking good care of your dental health is paramount to fighting bad breath. Most forms of bad breath are caused by the presence of bacteria in the mouth which produce sulfurous compounds, causing the bad odor. To that end, you need to keep your mouth as clean as possible. Get a toothpaste that uses baking soda in order to lower the level of acidity in your mouth. Also, you're going to want to get a tongue brush in order to be able to scrape the bacteria off of your tongue efficiently. Mouthwash can be helpful as well, but you should be cautioned not to purchase any form of mouthwash in which the active ingredient is alcohol. Alcohol dries out the mouth, which allows for a better breeding ground for the bacteria. It's also important to ensure that you floss at least once per day to remove food particles that may have gotten stuck in between your teeth. Bacteria can feed off of rotten food particles, helping them to multiply.

If proper dental hygiene isn't solving your bad breath woes, there are a number of things that you can do. Many find relief in zinc lozenges, as zinc is a compound that can combine with sulfur and negate its awful smell. In that way, the bacteria in your mouth is not removed, but the smells that it causes are extinguished. Also, gargling with hydrogen peroxide is an effective way of increasing the amount of oxygen present in your mouth, which causes bacteria growth to be lessened. It's also a good idea to keep a good amount of saliva in your mouth, as a dry mouth can cause the bacteria to breed like wildfire. To get the right amount of saliva in your mouth, be sure that you stay well hydrated, drinking between six and eight glasses of water per day. To increase the amount of saliva in your mouth, you may want to chew sugarless gum.

There are some unique causes of bad breath that can be negated by simply changing your lifestyle. Smokers face this problem on a regular basis, and to get rid of smoker's breath, the best thing to do would be, of course, to stop smoking. If you want to stick with cigarettes, you can negate the bad breath by keeping gum on you or breath mints, as cigarette breath doesn't persist for very long in the presence of another taste. For bad breath that is caused by garlic or onions, it can be tough to get rid of the smell. Toothpaste and mouthwash alone don't prove to be of much merit, as the sulfur compounds present in these vegetables don't dissipate for 48 hours. The best bet for getting rid of this smell is to consume tea or lemonade.

Natural cures for bad breath

Bad breath can be a serious problem if you experience it on a regular basis. While not life threatening by any stretch of the imagination, it can really lead to problems with self esteem and social interactions. While there are many different types of toothpastes, mouthwashes, and other methods for obtaining cleaner-smelling breath, some choose to opt for a more natural approach. In this article, we'll be discussing some home remedies for bad breath that may be of merit to your condition.

There are several different theories that natural remedy subscribers postulate about when it comes to bad breath. Some believe that bad breath occurs due to fermentation that is present in the intestinal tract. They stress that if you are experiencing a high level of bad breath, you may wish to avoid foods that contain a lot of yeast. Cheese and baked goods should be expressly avoided, according to these specialists. Sugar, alcohol, vinegar may also be responsible for the fermentation, and subscribers to this theory recommend a diet that is rich in fresh fruits and vegetables.

Homeopathic medicine is another method that some use as an alternative form of therapy. The homeopathic treatment for bad breath is the consuming of a substance known as Mercurius. This substance is available in many health food stores, and homeopathic specialists recommend that you have a 30X dose of the supplement between three and four times per day to treat bad breath.

One form of therapy that you may not think would have any merit for bad breath is reflexology. Reflexology focuses on the use of pressure points and energy centers around the body in order to help solve problems. Reflexologists have a recommendation for those with bad breath: press the reflex points that are present for the liver, the stomach, and the intestine. Also, touch the reflex points that are present on the sides and the bottoms of your big toes. In order to find out where these reflex points are, you should research a reflex chart on the internet.

Additionally, some believe that blood sugar levels that are improper may be to blame for bad breath. If you are experiencing a high level of blood sugar, you should do your best to avoid consuming vegetable oils, as well as fried foods and foods high in carbohydrates. Those advocating this treatment also recommend that you consume 9 milligrams of biotin per day and one teaspoon of lecithin. Through this method, the body will lose some of its blood sugar, leveling you out, and hopefully curing your bad breath.

Now that you know some of the alternative treatments that are out there when it comes to bad breath, you can make a better decision when it comes time to decide which method of treating bad breath is right for you. If the above methods prove to have no merit towards your condition, you may want to consider asking a doctor for a professional opinion on what you should do to treat your bad breath problem.

Fighting the bacteria that cause bad breath

Bad breath can truly be embarrassing. For those who experience bad breath in a chronic manner, it can really cause a negative impact on self esteem and social standings. For that reason, if you experience bad breath on a regular basis, it's important to take action and fight the situation to ensure that it is not making an impact on your life. In this article, we'll examine exactly what causes bad breath and discuss some ways to keep the bacteria that cause bad breath from taking over your mouth.

Bad breath is largely caused by the presence of anaerobic bacterium in the mouth. This type of bacteria thrives when living on the tongue, and in cases of extreme bad breath, you can note the presence of an off-color coating towards the back of your tongue. When these bacteria go through respiration, they release sulfurous compounds that can really stink up your mouth. For that reason, it's important for you to do what you can to ensure that the bacteria don't have easy access to your mouth.

The first step in fighting bacteria of the mouth is to keep your mouth clean. Do your best to brush your teeth after every meal, and make a concentrated effort to floss at least once per day. Also, the use of a tongue brush is highly encouraged. Many people don't realize that there is such a thing as a tongue brush, but is truly an effective weapon against bad breath. When there are food particles present in your mouth, the bacteria have a source of energy that they can thrive off of. Thus, if you are keeping your mouth as clean as you can, the bacteria are less likely to multiply and cause bad breath.

To understand the best way to fight the bacteria, it's important to understand the conditions under which the bacteria lives the longest. Anaerobic bacteria that are present in the mouth love to live in areas where there is little oxygen and a high level of acidity. For that reason, it's important to make your mouth a place that is both oxygen rich and with a low level of acidity. To increase the amount of oxygen present in your mouth, it is generally recommended to use hydrogen peroxide as mouth wash. While that may sound nasty, you can mix it with salt water in order to make the taste more tolerable. To decrease the presence of acidity in your mouth, you may want to use baking soda with your toothpaste. These two steps can aid your progress in the fight against bad breath in huge ways.

Another thing that can cause bacteria to flourish is a dry mouth. For that reason, it's important to ensure that you have a decent level of saliva in your mouth at all times. One good way of achieving this goal is to chew sugarless gum. Also, it's a good idea to keep your body well-hydrated, drinking several glasses of water per day.

If none of the above methods work for curbing your bad breath problem, you may wish to ask a doctor. There are individualized treatments available which can really help to solve your bad breath problem, so it's important to find a solution as soon as you can.

Morning breath: How to overcome it

In this article, we will focus on how to combat the morning breath. First we identify the cause of bad morning breath and then followed by discussion on how to deal with it.

You wake up, and it tastes like you fell asleep with a dead fish in your mouth. The dreaded morning breath is something that we all experience from time to time, and the symptoms should be all too familiar. It's a problem that occurs in many people, and in this article, we'll examine the problem and focus on some ways of fixing it so that you can wake up with fresher breath. The first thing that you need to understand in order to combat morning breath is where bad breath comes from in the first place.

A major cause for bad breath is the presence of anaerobic bacteria in the mouth, which can release sulfurous compounds that cause the bad breath smell that you're familiar with. To that end, it's important to indulge in the best dental care that you can to curtail the problem. This type of bacteria feeds off of the particles of food that are left in your mouth after you are eating. Based on this, the solution is to keep your mouth clean before sleep.

For that reason, one of the most important things that you can do towards eliminating bad breath is to be sure to brush your teeth after every meal. Be sure to brush every side of your teeth, taking special care to ensure that you are brushing near the gumline, where bacteria tend to reside. Tongue brushes can also be helpful for getting the anaerobic bacteria out of your mouth, and they can be easily purchased at your local drug store. Flossing is also important to ensure that any particles of food that may have gotten trapped between your teeth are loosened up and eliminated. Brushing your teeth and flossing before bed can go a long way towards eliminating the bad breath that you experience in the mornings. Another thing that you can do to make your mouth a difficult place for bacteria to multiply in the evenings is to raise the level of oxygen that is present in your mouth before you sleep. You can do this by mixing hydrogen peroxide with salt water and gargling with it before bedtime. You may also want to add baking soda to your toothpaste, as it decreases the level of acidity in your mouth, making it a less welcome place for bacteria. There are many different types of supplements that are for sale online that promise to remove the symptoms of morning breath, but you must approach these treatments with caution; be wary of making dental hygiene purchases from any company until you are completely sure of their qualifications.

It's important to remember that everyone gets morning breath symptoms to a certain degree. If your problem persists despite your best efforts, you could just brush your teeth immediately after you wake up and before you talk to anyone. It's not the best solution, but it's one that you can achieve easily. If your bad breath problem is chronic, you may wish to speak with a doctor to find out what the real problem is.
